Another Saturday Night --

AND I AIN'T GOT NOBODY!

Hello Everyone!

Do you remember that song? It takes on a whole new meaning when you look at it around October 31st, oddly enough on a Saturday this year.

Here are those lyrics. And seriously, I might have to come up with something for this poor guy ...
he sounds really sad about his "condition".
Another Saturday Night and I ain't got nobody,
I have some money ‘cause I just got paid.
How I wish I had someone to talk to,
I'm in an awful way.

I blew in town a week ago,
I ain't seen a lotta girls since then.
If I could find ‘em I could get ‘em,
but as yet I haven't met ‘em,
That's why I'm in the shape I'm in

Chorus

Another fella told me,
he had a sister that looked so fine.
Instead of being my deliverance,
she had a strong resemblance
to a cat named Frankenstein

It's hard for a fella,
when he don't know his way around,
If I can't find me a honey
to help me spend my money,
I'm gonna have to blow this town.

Say, join Me Saturday Night at the Witching Hour for The Last Hurrah -- Halloween 2009.

That Old Black Magic

Hello Everyone!

Yep, I'm still attempting to post every night this Halloween week. I'm not sure why I'm doing this. I don't have anything to prove to anyone, least of all myself. But this time of year is just so so special to me for many reasons... nostalgia one of them, of course. So to the brooms, kids and away we'll go, flying monkeys and all!!!

This little work is called "You guys are such cut-ups."

Things happen in Blogovia that we just don't expect, sometimes. It tickles and thrills. One of the new peeps I have met and made through A Fanciful Twist 's lovely Halloween Celebration is Autumn of Autumn's Antics. Go there now for some fun fun stuff.

But here's the kicker. Where Autumn lives...? It's my old hometown. Where. I. Grew. Up. Where I went to church (can you believe that?) and nearby school (to be educated but also socialized. That didn't work, either). Near where my dad and (now) my brother and my sister live as well.
And I was sent some fun stuff you see below, straight from Autumn's blog contests which are still going on, if I understood her recent posts -- ready, willing and able to be altered.

LOVE the stamp!

All I know is the mailman got a big kick out of being able to tell me, "Somebody sent you a house!" before handing me the package.

She sure did. Thanks, Autumn. Now the mystery begins...
What will I make out of this? A gypsy's cupboard, full of surprises or simply cubby holes for this 'n' that? Will it be happy as a humble house or shall it be a shrine or maybe a mausoleum? A museum? A library? School for the Arts? A travel agency? Mmm....
Take care.

The Happy Couple

Hello Everyone!

I don't think this little sketch needs any explanation.

Do you? EDIT: I had an earlier rougher sketch and have now replaced it with this latest.

Work is really underway now. 12 hour days already. Weekend work a sure thing.

Between that, Halloween Shenanigans and my dad's breaking his hip yesterday -- whew. His surgery was all but immediate and he's doing as well as he can be, considering his age (93 next week) and frailties that come with that particular territory. I am grateful it wasn't worse and am grateful my brother and sister are close by.

Five -- and Counting

Hello Everyone!

Five days and counting till we slide right into Halloween. It's been a great season of the witch this year. Folks are ready for cool weather, fabulous colours and a little change is what I see here in the Classic City.

I liked creating this little quickie witch -- especially her frock with its little apron! -- and have titled this -- what else?

It's The Not So Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.

You may see this dress again -- and I am even thinking of taking it a step further and putting it on a doll other than one of my Paper Ladies. We'll see.

Unless something untoward happens, I hope to post every night this week with a little witchery ditchery do and more Art Shenanigans!

Take care!

Harvest Moon

Hello Everyone!
Say, first things first. So sorry for my boo boo, Anairam! Her link -- Fra(a)iing -- somehow got crosshatched with Charlie's of Art Happens. So if you missed her Mad Hatter tea party, and forgot she's on the My Peeps link -- here she is!

And here this gal is. This is how I envision the Harvest Moon. Enjoy this darling and the colours she brings to The Classic City this time of year.

We're on the home stretch to Halloween and even the trees are celebrating the holiday.

There's beauty all around, even under our feet.

Another look at the ever-so Amy, sans Mad Hat, but seen here in her entire handmade outfit. She looked so Holmesian! I wish there were some way to really show her seamwork off. But this photo will have to do for now.

Join me Monday evening for another Paper Lady treat! Because very soon, these Ladies will be more than just paper.

This Party Is A Blast!

Hello Everyone!

Thanks for stopping by and I hope your Mad Hatters Gigs went splendidly! Mine went off with hardly a care... please stop in and have a cuppa!

Coffee, tea or -- ?

Amy arrived first and we had a wonderful time catching up. She made her entire Victorian outfit which includes her "Mad Hat".

T in a Boy Scout Uniform... what a card -- yep, a WILD card.
The others soon showed. Everyone loved THE MAD HATTER centerpiece -- who wouldn't?!
Well maybe Kitty Boy wouldn't.

A nice table with cheese biscuits; French cocoa balls; cucumber and mint butter sandwiches, T's curried chicken sandwiches; Roasted Rosemary Pecans. Lemon Curd, Apricot preserves, and Strawberry Jam for the Crumpets. And the ubiquitous Earl Grey and Constant Comfort as well as other teas. (Java for me, please!)

Dale pours the tea -- she was the guest of honour (her first tea here in Athens with Our Rowdy Bunch) and that's one of the responsibilities and privileges they take on. Dale is actually SMALLER than Yours Truly. I feel like a giant lumbering sloth beside her.

Teresa and Kitten having a heart to heart chat, playing catch-up. I'm so fortunate to have this handful of trueblue friends. I hope you have this type treasure in your life, as well.
Some of Kitten's journalings...

More of the Gang. Tammy (back to us) brought me an incredible find you'll see another day! This is one of my fave things to do... host little teas and such so My Live Action Dolls can get together without the guys or the kids, leave behind the cares and worries of each one's particular world and just have a relaxed afternoon, strengthening the bonds of friendship.

Amy and Your Hostess with the Mostest... don't I look like I am about to keel over? LOL! Well, a late night and an early and very full day to pull off the 2nd Annual Mad Hatter Tea Party is the combined culprit for that zoned out expression! But a great time was had by all.
I indeed made everything but the teas and the breads. Many thanks to T for the rest of it!
I hope your own party was as fun. And yes, this is the last party of the year... I think.
Oh wait. Maybe not....!

WHOOOO's Coming To The Tea Party?

ME! And a cast of thousands... not really. Well, I don't THINK so, anyway...

Hello everybody! Guess what THAT is?

Below the photos of Athens dolling up for the holidays, I have a partial blog roll of where you can go for fun times and mad hatters hats and teas tomorrow. That's all I know (for now) – so swing back by tomorrow, just in case.

Remember, if it’s not fun, don’t do it… and if you don't think Yours Truly has fun, you need to have your hat examined!

Speaking of photos, Bulldawg Territory is here in Athens. I really should do one of those A Dog Every Day sites.

Even if Molly and Bess are uncooperative for a photo shoot (I hear they have an AGENT now!), these sculptures are everywhere… I think there are almost 100 of these pups, no two alike. I could pop these babies up whenever I am feeling lazier than USUAL.

This Dawg is outside Earth Fare -- here in Athens. One of my fave groceries. But expensive. Why is that? Why do we have to pay more for “the good stuff”? Mmmm.

People are getting into the act with pumpkins this year. The sign on this HUGE box filled with these babies read “Carving Pumpkins: 3 for $12”. Sounds like a bargain to me!

This next photo is really to show off a work in progress... oh you don't see it? Well, okay, let me spell it out.
How do you think those little acorn tops will look as HATS on littles? oh yeah... yeah. I am there already. A very DIFFERENT kind of party for that crowd, believe you me.

And now for the blog roll. These folks are hoping to join the 2nd Annual Mad Hatters Tea tomorrow right here on EyeCandy. Please visit them and say howdy! Others are too pressed for time for the hat part, but they want to stop and looksee. You know you are all more than welcome. We might even have a cup of tea waiting for YOU.

Circles of Rain (wow, Sarah has already jumped right into this!)
One Day At A Time (if she's not still stuck to her couch by the fire! and who could blame her?)

Art Happens (So glad to reconnect with Charlie!)
Bun Mountain Cottage (A fun fun blog whatever Lynne is up to!)
All I Ever Wanted (Crossing fingers you'll show, Linda Sue.)

Who am I forgetting? I know you're out there.

And, I have to go start brewing pots, making the treats (yes, I actually have LIVE ACTION FRIENDS coming over for this thing and have a full tea party menu I am sharing with Peeps -- not like the original Mad Hatter!), and cleaning up Ol' Spooky House.

Have a great evening and see you later!

The Mad Hatter Is On His Way!

See the October 17th post if you are looking for the Fanciful Twist Party here at EyeCandy. (pssst! I am still flying around to visit... And boy, are my arms tired!)

Hello Everybody!

It's true. I’ve only gotten around to maybe – key word here, maybe -- a quarter to half of the folks on the Fanciful Twist Halloween Celebration plus My Own Peeps. Fun? Yes! Exhausting? A bigger yes goes here. But it has been and is fun.

A tempest in a teapot kept me from getting out a lot of what I originally planned. As Rab the Rhymer said, “The best laid plans of mice and men…”

Still, despite everything -- including myself -- I covered a lot of air. Or was it ground? Oh dear, my poor little broom has gone on strike!

To top it all, The Second Annual Mad Hatter Tea Party is This Saturday on this here blog. Thank goodness I don’t have to rely on that broom for transportation since the Party is being held right here in my Spooky Old House.

No, I am NOT wearing this, I assure you. My Mad Hatters would never let me live it down.
Oh. You’re New Here?! Well, jump right in and check out this post! And get ready to pop up a hat of some kind, any kind, in any medium you choose on your own blog this Saturday.

Let Me know you are in for the count by Friday Midnight EST (if you haven't already) and I will blog-roll you that very day.

Speaking of tea parties, check out this fabu silver service I picked up at a yard sale. For an obscenely low price, to boot. I could not believe my good fortune! It will look really lovely once the Faeries (read: T and I) shine it up!

A Classic City Fanciful Twist Celebration

And JUST Before The Witching Hour Itself...

Hurry up, hurry! We're going to be late!
Oh and as always, What do we wear? The black or the gray?
Does it matter? They're both boo-tiful!
Where will this here party be?
Everywhere and nowhere...
Here we go, down in a hole
And up to the house.
Always creep, be quiet as a mouse ... !

Did that sign we pass say DEAD END?
Remember your tokens to get in.
She may look friendly, but she's a scream,

And did her jar say Vanishing Cream...
Oh yes indeed, and away you'll go
if one of the skulls you do not show!

Turn Back, it says, is it too late?
Hurry up, girl, it's half past eight!

Don't we know them? Oh, don't we --?
WE never tell who WE may see!

And here is a --- eek!

It's only a bride whose groom did not show.
What happened to him,
We'll never know.

Hang on to your broom,
Another place, another room?
You might think twice about going up there
You can't really mean that, there is really no scare..........................

I hope you have enjoyed this and yours as much as I have. Thank you Vanessa of A Fanciful Twist for this invite and chance to party!
I almost got waylaid today and this is up just before midnight of the party, seriously.
Lots of shenanigans -- of the regular kind going on...
I hope to see you here next week at the Mad Hatters 2nd Annual Tea Party.
Take care.

Almost Time For A Fanciful Twist!

Hello! And it's well past time for a Self Portrait but here we are, anyway. As you can see, I am wearing my hair super short these days -- just in time for the cold snap promised here in the Classic City.

"My, what big teeth, ears, nose, earrings you have!" Less hair means you need to butch up about your looks is all I can tell you, Kids. No mane attractions to hide behind once you've taken this type step!

Isn't it funny, Halloween or no, Magic happens. When you least expect it, something fantastic occurs. Supernatural after all means natural, only MORE SO!

To wit: "Take Me To The River" is what I call the work below. although its actual title is "Pasture On The Water." Thinking WAY beyond pink, eh? That blazing yellow is incredible, isn't it? Yellow symbolizes freedom in Bulgaria, evidently. Sculpture by Pavel Koichev, one of my favourite installation artists. (Man, I bet he has a party going on ALL the time -- in his head, anyway.)

But say, speaking of thinking pink... enjoy these lovely bits that will springboard us into other parts of the spectrum that are very popular these days... like GREEN. Everyone and everything is green now. Green is the new black. Green is in, trendy, fashionable, commoditized.
Well, yes and not really. Green is necessary. Green was here first, and we need to ensure it remains this way. It really isn't easy being green now, in many many ways. Sorry, soapbox time. But not too much... I am trying to get in the Party Mood for A Fanciful Twist's Halloween Celebration, where THAT colour spectrum will no doubt be simple black and orange. And is "sparkle" a colour?

This Green Clock in England tells us it's almost time for A Fanciful Twist's Halloween Celebration there, too!
And this pink dragonfly reminds me of Jeanne... another partygoer! Again, like the pink grasshopper from an earlier post -- this is not an objet d'art. This is a living, breathing dragonfly, its hue quite authentic.

Oh and Katy DID! And doesn't she look grand?

I am excited about A Fanciful Twist's Halloween Celebration. I'm excited I have Peeps that will be participating as well as being able to meet and make new pals, take inspiration and courage from those who not only have blazed their own art/life trails but are totally into you doing the very same.

And I am very excited I will have Paper Ladies All Over The Place on Saturday Evening... some on brooms and some not -- but certainly all of them "up in the air" with the joy of just being. I hope you will be, too.
Take care!
